- Stopping at one end of the pool if someone is swimming up your ass and is obviously way faster than you
- Moving to the left or the right at the end of the lane. The middle is for flipturns my friend
- The correct method for passing. Hint: it does NOT include swimming into the person coming the other direction
- Eliminating fins and snorkels from lap lanes. You wanna snorkel, find a reef
- The need for those cool swimsuit spinning machines. Not technically etiquette related, but sooo important

IAASE
I am going to form a new and important international organization, which I will call the International Association for the Advancement of Swim Etiquette. All you swimmers out there know the important work we have before us. Fundraising to support this crucial issue should be no problem given the complete absence of pool etiquette the world over. Our mission will include increasing awareness of:

I would've thought all these "failings" were the only saving graces of swimming. I mean, sort all that out and the most exciting thing about swimming is watching the bottom of the pool go by. Why is it that this just doesn't light any after-burners?
Hi Nevada!
I just found your blog and I love it. I almost cried when I saw the picture of the petit Café in Haga. We used to go there every Sunday.
They do not have cafés like hat here in Palo Alto.
Otherwise I do not miss much from home, only the seafood.
We had a daughter in June. Her name is Elsa. I am glad you are enjoying your stay in Sweden.

Susanna, congrats on the new(ish) baby! I hope Tina is adjusting well. I don't miss much from home either, just the burritos, so maybe we could work something out ;)
And anonymous, watching the bottom of the pool go by is a lot less stressful than open-water swimming where I kept looking for sharks. I'll take boring indoor swimming over anxiety-producing outdoor swimming any day.
Since I will be donating a significant sum of money to this organization, I would like to add a few of my own rules:
1)If I have been waiting for 15 minutes to get in a lane, please do not ask me to wait longer because your friend is coming "any minute" and you want to swim together. Your friend should have gotten there a half an hour ago like I did.
2)If you are swimming alone in a lane and I am trying to get in, please don't pretend you don't see me and keep swimming up and down the middle. And if you do "let me in", please don't roll your eyes as if I am ruining your efforts to make the Olympic team. It's rude.
3)Can't believe this has to be a written rule, but ....no spitting.
